It’s all about getting people involved!

At Akari Care we’re always looking for ways of improving the service we offer our residents, and we know that high on everyone’s list of priorities – residents and their families – is food, glorious food!

So, what better way of testing out some possible new food ranges than to use some of our residents as ‘blind tasters’?  We chose St Philp’s Court as the ‘testing station’.

Two other tasting teams were brought in, and the St Philp’s management team and kitchen staff were briefed and prepared beforehand.

Using groups of up to twenty people, a small range of products were tried out, including cups of tea or coffee, and biscuits – a good way to meet and greet, of course! -  and two samples of a bacon sandwich  and a couple of small snacks to compare.  Then, people’s views were recorded, and we explained what it was they had been trying.

We encouraged staff from St Peter’s and residents, friends and family from other homes to have a go, and just to sweeten things along, we arranged for a ‘goody bag’ for all the outside visitors,  as well as free samples from the kitchen.
